Vieques, Puerto RicoThe small Puerto Rican island of Vieques has been used for 60 years for U.S. military training. The people of Vieques live with the environmental and economic impact of these exercises and have for many years asked the world to notice the injustices they suffer. The Puerto Rican Mennonite Conference has joined with many religious and social organizations to try to bring about change in a nonviolent way. Mennonite Church USA in Nashville adopted a resolution calling for the immediate end of the military activities, together with a cleanup of the affected areas and a return of the land to the people of Vieques.
