Action: writing letters of support to Vietnamese Mennonites

If you and/or your congregation would like to visibly show support to Vietnamese Mennonites, you may write letters of comfort. The letters may be written in English since most communities have persons who can read English. The letters should be short and can:

  introduce the person(s) writing,
include reference to a Mennonite congregation or church here in the United States,
say something like "I have heard that your son/daughter/husband is imprisoned. I am praying that he/she will soon be able to return home."
especially include information on you and/or your congregation's prayer support, as this will help Vietnamese Mennonites know they are not alone.
The letter should contain no references to religious activities or life in Vietnam.

We don't feel comfortable releasing addresses on this public website. Therefore, please send all your letters to us and we will forward to family members. Please be certain you use names as below so we send correctly. Send only letters. Thanks.

1. Reverend Nguyen Hong Quang; his wife is Le Thi Phu Dung, and their three young children are Gideon, Daniel and Anne.

2. Evangelist Nguyen van Phuong has a wife and a newborn child. Address letters to his mother, Mrs. Pham Thi Phuong Trang.

3. Evangelist (Ms) Le Thi Hong Lien; address letters to father Le Quang Danh

4. Evangelist Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Elder Nguyen Huu Nghia are brothers. Address letters to their mother, Mrs. Quang Thi Kim Lan.

I recently had a chance to listen to Mordechai Vanunu, who spent 18 years in solitary confinement in Israel. He treasured deeply each letter he received, and could identify by name and location many of the people who wrote to him. May we offer this same comfort.
