Peace Takes Guts T-shirts

	In the tradition of Peace Takes GUTS I and Peace Takes GUTS II, Peace and Justice Support Network created our third Peace Takes GUTS tshirt, our Latina/o version, “La Paz Requiere Agallas,” featuring Julia Esquivel de Valasquez, a Guatemalan activist, poet, and minister; Oscar Arias Sanchez, former president of Costa Rica and 1987 Nobel Peace Laureate; Delores Huerta, co-founder with Cesar Chaves (on our Peace Takes GUTS II tshirt) of the United Farm Workers; Ricardo Esquivia Ballestas, a Colombian Mennonite peacemaker; Oscar Romero, elected as Archbishop of El Salvador in 1977 and killed on March 4, 1980; and Rigoberta Menchu Tum, raised in the Quiche branch of the Mayan culture and joined social reform activites through the Catholic Church. This newest shirt, which was “unveiled” at MC USA Convention in San Jose, is mustard with green pictures and red writing. As with the other 2 shirts, this one comes with a pamphlet containing a short biography of each person pictured. The pamphlet will soon be available in Spanish as well. 	Due to many requests, PJSN has reprinted the original Peace Takes GUTS tshirt and brochure. The color of the shirt is called Texas Orange. The shirt was originally released during the Mennonite Convention in Nashville. This remake was released during the Mennonite Convention in Charlotte. Included on the shirt are the following people: Mohandas Gandhi, Indian leader who used the principles of nonviolence, courage, and truth; Mother Teresa, recipient of the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize and founder of the Missionaries of Charity order in Calcutta, India; Martin Luther King, one of the world's best-known advocates of nonviolent social change; Muriel Lester, an Englishwoman who committed herself to pacifism at age 19 and protested in London in both World Wars; Corrie Ten Boom, who along with her family provided sanctuary in their Netherland home for Jews during World War II; and Menno Simons, a man after whom the Mennonite Church is named, Menno left his comfortable position as a Catholic priest in Holland and became an Anabaptist who renounced violence.
