Action responses on the anniversary of September 11, 2001
Many people re-examined their lives and made huge commitments and changes after the horrors our nation suffered five years ago. Some of these people joined Christian Peacemaker Teams. Some people sought their own security. Some offered to walk beside Moslem sisters and brothers. Some people made and sent comforters to Afghanistan. Others sent school kits to Iraq. Some protested against war. Some searched for the truth and told it publicly.
- In your Sunday school class or small group, spend time thinking how September 11, 2001, has changed you, your congregation, your community and your country. People have made choices. Take some time to think how you came to make decisions that have created a different life for you. Wonder how your relationship with God has influenced them.
- Prayerfully evaluate your current actions and choices, rejoicing and repenting as appropriate.
- Remember that it is not your job to save the world-that is the job of Jesus, our Savior. However, risks that you take in response to God's call to justice and peace strengthen your own faith and commitment to Jesus and shine a light to people around you who are searching for alternatives to violence and fear.
- If you feel God calling you to work for peace and justice in small or large ways, you'll find resources on the Peace and Justice Support Team website www.MennoniteUSA.org/peace or you may contact Susan Mark Landis, Mennonite Church USA peace advocate,
or 330-683-6844.
