Second anniversary remembrance of September 11, 2001

Friends,
Some members of our congregations may be grieving the events of September 11, 2001, and some may being focusing more on the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, or the consequences of the war on terrorism.

If you decide to remember this date in your congregation, you might devote your time in several different directions:
* grief for the loss of life
* faith in a God who rejects violence and revenge.

Many resources were produced in past years:
* 2002 page of resources http://peace.mennolink.org/resources/sept112002 * 2001 page of resources http://peace.mennolink.org/sept11_top.html

A few new resources for this year:

Circles of Hope: A Healing Memorial to 9/11
Peaceful Tomorrows invites you commemorate September 11th with Circles of Hope. "Please join us in creating Circles of Hope to commemorate the two-year anniversary of our loved ones' deaths on September 11. We plan to encircle the World Trade Center site with a candlelight vigil on the night of September 10, 2003. Gather with us in New York City or create a Circle of Hope candlelight vigil in your own community and link it to other circles."

Ecumenical Resources for the Anniversary of 9-11-01
"The Text This Week" is an independent web site with lectionary, scripture study and worship links and resources. You might find something here that is helpful.

Litany of Ashes and Stones In Memory of the Dead of 9/11/01 And All Victims of Terrorism and War This litany come from the Shalom Center newsletter, but I can't find it on their web site, so I am reproducing it here. You'll perhaps need to adapt it for your own setting if your service doesn't take place on a river.
