Call to Justice: A Response to New York Shootings

The New York City Council of Mennonite Churches, in cooperation with Mennonite Central Committee East Coast and Peace and Justice Support Network of Mennonite Church USA , is calling for a response from our people. On Saturday, November 25 Saturday, November 25, 2006 NY Police shot Sean Bell, Joseph Guzman, and Trent Benefield, 23 outside a club in New York City. Twenty-three year old Bell, who was killed, was to be married the same day.

  We can stand in solidarity with the victim’s families and the New York City Council of Mennonite Churches by signing and sending a letter originally sent to Mayor Bloomberg by the New York City Council of Mennonite Churches calling for an independent investigation. Call, fax, e-mail, or download a cover letter and the letter to Mayor Bloomberg below and send to:  Mayor Michael R.   The families of these victims will need counseling and rehabilitation.   Cards expressing sympathy to Sean Bell’s family and get well wishes for Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman can be sent.
