When we walk with the Lord, grace that none can afford
fills us fuller than goods that decay.
Though some tell us we’re poor, and should gather much more,
their desires we’ll just disobey.
Refrain
Just disobey, for there’s no other way
to confront human falsehood than to just disobey.
When temptations arise, singing sweetly their lies,
to live life in a world-honored way,
neither bowed nor enthroned, all as family, God-owned,
inequalities just disobey.
Refrain
Every sin we reveal, every wrong we repeal,
to bring justice forth without delay;
and the light that we shine on each greedy design
calls the whole world to just disobey.
Refrain
But to thwart F-16’s and their murderous means
or bid hired guns their guns put away
carries with it a price -- suff’rings like those of Christ --
borne by those who will just disobey.
Refrain
Yet we’re positive folk, for the fires that we stoke
show our hope in that long yearned-for Day
when the “No!” we maintain echoes “Yes!” to the reign
of the One we must trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Then with new sky and earth we’ll all share in new birth
of the goodness born out of the fray
fought with courage by those who with love’s boldness chose
whom to tell “No” and whom to obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
