Additional Peace and Justice Statements

from the former General Conference Mennonite Church and Mennonite Church

In general, our denomination passes a statement after a great deal of thought and work, often including submitting the statement to congregations for study and prayerful discernment. A statement may take four years to write before being submitted to the General Assembly. Once a statement has been passed, we refer back to it, rather than pass a new one. Thus, since these statements yet reflect our views, we haven't passed additional statements on the same issues more recently.

The Mennonite Church USA Executive Board has taken formal action saying that the statements passed by the former two denominations that now make up MC USA reflect the views of MC USA. The statements passed at the delegate assembly of the Mennonite Church USA, at Nashville 2001 and Atlanta 2003, are posted on our Resolutions Page.

Smaller delegate bodies of Mennonite Church USA (area conferences, peace committees, etc) have passed additional statements.

Many of us trace our beginnings from the Schleitheim Confession (Anabaptist, 1527)

Our current confession of faith includes articles on peace and relationship to government. Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective (Mennonite Church/General Conference Mennonite Church, 1995)
