Peace Advocate

The Peace Advocate helps members of Mennonite Church USA answer the question:
Why has God placed Mennonites in the United States, the most powerful country in the world?

Partnering with Colombian Mennonites to speak peace to a country in internal armed conflict, Mennonites in North America raised nearly $18,000 to co-sponsor the Pan y Paz day on September 21, 2002. The Peace Advocate worked with this campaign. more information
When Mennonite Church USA reorganized in 2001, leadership created a Peace Advocate office under the Executive Leadership Executive Director's Office . As our Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective states, this office seeks to help Mennonites follow the biblical agenda of "being ambassadors for Christ (II Corinthians 5:20), calling the nations (and all persons and institutions) to move toward justice, peace, and compassion for all people. In so doing, we seek the welfare of the city to which God has sent us. (Jeremiah 29:7)"

The Peace Advocate:

leads and organizes prophetic witness and peace and justice advocacy on behalf of Mennonite Church USA,
coordinates interdenominational relationships concerning peace and justice issues, and
networks and provides a structure for accountability for Mennonite Church USA program agencies and the Executive Board offices around peace and justice issues.
