Tom Beutel
Tom Beutel is Professor of Computer Science and director of the Honors Program at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S.), Northeastern University (M.S.) and Nova Southeastern University (Ph.D.). He currently serves as chair of the newly formed Peace and Justice Committee of Gilead Mennonite Church in Chesterville, Ohio. Tom lives in Fredericktown, Ohio, with his wife Wendy. They have five children living in various parts of the country: David (Hawaii), Katy (Virginia), Kevin (New York), Dan (Washington state) and Adam (Ohio). Tom has been involved in various peace and justice efforts, including Knox County Voices for Peace, and as a peace advocate on a university panel on the Iraq war. He has focused on raising awareness of the social impact of technology, the implications of overdependence on technology (especially for Christians), and other peace and justice issues including fair trade coffee. His interests include reading, word and logic puzzles, board games, counted cross-stitch and gardening.
