Rene F. Tetro of Lafayette Hill, Pa., is the 1,450th subscriber to PeaceSigns and the recipient of a T-shirt. Obviously wise and certainly well-spoken, we'll offer her story as she presented it to us. Congratulations Rene! "I found out about PeaceSigns as I was surfing through some links on the Mennonite Church USA Web site. I have been interested in peace and social justice issues for most of my life, beginning back in the '60s. I have been a Christian for 28 years and spent time as both a pastor and elder in several churches. "In most of the areas I have lived there have been no 'peace churches' per se, but the denomination in which I was involved did make provisions for those who held peace positions and were conscientious objectors. When moving back to the Philadelphia region we began attending a Mennonite church, which helps to meet both my spiritual and social passions. "Right now the major efforts of my peace and social justice activity involves operating a small Internet and micro-power FM station in West Point, Pa. on which I broadcast music as well as numerous programs that concern peace and social justice issues. "I have been enjoying reading the PeaceSigns e-zine, and have found many of the articles to be both inspiring and practical. In this latest issue, I particularly appreciated Tom Beutel's article on Intentional Peacemaking. "Keep up the good work." |
