Susan Mark LandisAny day now, schools in your area will fling wide their doors to an influx of bright-eyed students eagerly returning to the halls of learning. Already teachers are scurrying around, creating new lessons and becoming acquainted with new resources, so they can help each child develop to full potential.

Well, we can dream! And the dreams are better this year than the nightmares of years past when news of students using guns at school was splashed on the front page of the newspaper. Now, instead, the front-page news of violence is about youngsters out of school, but still using weapons to kill.

Have you and your congregation offered students at your local schools an alternative to violence as a way to solve problems? Consider adopting a local classroom with the goal of offering peace. You might:
