Overcoming the pain

Congregational choric reading for Second Sunday of Advent

Group 1: Those reborn out of irrational death
Treasure life in every cellular pulsation.
Group 2: Eyes dried up in rivers of wasted tears
Donate freely out of their own pain
To the suffering of all the world.
To those cut off from their loved ones in acts of homicide.
Group 3: Those resurrected from barbarous acts
From east to west and north to south
Now don't believe in just wars,
Nor in heavens promised to evildoers.
All: The God of peace
Without sword nor army
Continues today forgiving the cruel enemy
And consoling the victims with immense love.
Group 1: May the ashes of pain bury vengeance
And unearth forever from our souls eternal hatred.
Group 2: May we sustain the pride imprisoned in our throats,
Group 3: May forgiveness freely given drown vengeance,
Group 1: May rough hands extended wipe pain-filled tears
With kerchiefs soaked in love.
Groups 2 and 3:  Before the nightfall of mass suicide
Touches our doors
We will take away the power from the lovers of death.
All: Evil no longer has control
Because a Shoot has come up from the stump of Jesse,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding is upon Him
And the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord!
