A. General
- Provide consultation to congregations, conferences, urban councils and ethnic/racial associations to develop strategies to become missional communities.
- Network with identified groups to develop strategic plans to become a missional church/ministry.
- Maintain contact and provide consultation to an assigned cluster of congregations and conferences, etc.
- Develop and/or identify missional church training materials, particularly focused on peace andjustice issue.
- Engage in missiological research to enhance the missional thrust of Mennonite Church USA.
- Provide training/seminars to constituent groups on missional church theology and practices, with a focus on peace and justice.
- Provide linkages between urban, suburban and rural congregations for reciprocal ministry strategy development.
- Function alongside Ministry Formation staff to inform collaborative efforts.
- Participate with Missional Church Development staff in shaping departmental priorities.
- Assist in building relationships with the larger Mennonite mission community.
- Represent Mennonite Mission Network in congregational, conference, and church wide settings for the purposes of inspiration, education and relationship building.
- Promote, encourage and facilitate missional church activity in Mennonite Church USA, conferences and congregations, as requested.
B. Area Specific
- Resource staff, conferences and congregations on peace and justice issues and agenda.
- Implement the Second Mile program in congregations.
- Develop urban peacemaking resources to urban congregations.
- Consult with urban councils, UMDs and congregations in developing an urban peace agenda.
- Assist staff to develop a holistic approach to peace and justice, integrating evangelism into peace and justice focus.
- Oversee the development of a peace and justice support network.
- Develop strategies for creating a "right sharing" of world resources in Mennonite Church USA congregations.
- Represent Mennonite Mission Network at various peace gatherings as appropriate.
- Network with Executive Board Staff of Mennonite Church USA to effect a holistic approach to peace and justice.
Skills/Qualifications
- Espouses and lives the values and cultural attributes of the Mennonite Mission Network and fosters an environment in which they flourish.
- Understands and supports Mennonite Church USA structures.
- Has proven capabilities in teaching, group leadership, and group dynamics.
- Familiar with organizational theory and models, and understands the implications of various organizational patterns.
- Has prior experience in congregational administration and organizational leadership.
- Has prior cross-cultural living and work experience.
- Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to adapt to ideas of others.
- Demonstrated ability in consulting.
- Is able to conceptualize and communicate missional church theology and practices.
- Is able to forge effective, productive and trusting relationships.
- Is skilled in peace and justice work and activities.
- Has achieved a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in religious studies, social science, education, communication or a related degree. Advanced studies preferred.
- Is able and willing to travel independently, mostly in the U.S., 45-90 nights a year.
